Tee Ball

5T (including 4-year-olds)

All boys and girls league age 4 and 5

Basic fundamentals of the game will be introduced. The players will hit from a tee and use a soft baseball. They will play all positions, rotating frequently, and bat in continuous order each inning. There will be practices as well as games. WVLL attempts to group players on coed teams at this level by neighborhoods, schools, and special requests if possible. Games are played in Eagle.

6T

All boys and girls league age 6 will participate at this level.

See above description as all will apply except that the players may hit from a tee or be pitched to by a coach. Fundamental skills will be further developed. Games are played in Eagle. Girls turning 7 between Jan 1 and April 30th will have the choice to play 6T or Rookie Softball.

Baseball

Rookie

PLAYERS: League Age 7, 8, and 9 year-olds .

Rookie games will be played at Hunters Creek, Eagle Christian Church, and Duck Alley. 

ROOKIE DIVISION (COACH PITCH): For players league age 7, 8, and 9. Players will continue to learn hitting, base running, fielding and throwing techniques at this level. The ball will be pitched by a coach and will be the same type of ball used in tee-ball. Positions will be rotated equally, and players will continue to bat through the full line-up. A stronger emphasis will be placed on playing by the rules to ready players for higher levels of ball.

REGULAR SEASON: Complete fundamental instructional league. Rookie league is the first step toward competitive baseball. Players learn the fundamentals of baseball and how to work as a team for a common goal.

AA Minors

PLAYERS: League Age 8, 9 and 10 year-olds

WVLL allows 8-year-olds to assess for play at the AA minor level. They must have prior playing experience, good baseball skills, and be willing to be drafted to a team. Specifically, this means that players are not assigned to teams, and WVLL cannot guarantee team placement with friends, school mates, or carpool needs. A majority of 8-year-olds will NOT get drafted onto a AA Minors team. Contact AA Director for additional information

PLAYER ASSESSMENT: Assessment is required. Not all players attending assessments will be placed on a team due to skill level, space limitations, and safety concerns. The league gives priority to 9 and 10 year-olds at the AA level. The assessments are to determine the appropriate level of play (AA, AAA, or Majors). The teams are formed by draft. AA draft takes place after Major and AAA division drafts.

AA MINORS DIVISION: Players age 8 through 10. While the player should have basic fundamental skills, the goal of this division is to improve the player's skills and to place less emphasis (than the major division) on the competitive aspects of the game. Position rotation, equal playing time, and continuous batting order will be in effect at the AA level. A regulation baseball will be used by the pitcher, and players will pitch to the batter. The coach will help pitch if there have been two consecutive walks within one inning. There will be an end-of-season tournament, and the players in the AA division will be eligible to try out for the West Valley Little League All Star tournament teams that can compete up to the state level. Practices and regular season games will be played at Hunters Creek, Eagle Christian Church, and Duck Alley.

REGULAR SEASON: In AA Minors, you start to see the level of competition increase, although the focus is still on fundamentals and sportsmanship. The Minor League provides the increased competition, teamwork and skill level that players will develop to progress toward the Major League. Minor League players will fine-tune their skills and develop teamwork to prepare them for the Major League.

AAA Minors

PLAYERS: League Age 9, 10, and 11 year-olds

AAA Minors games will be played at the Duck Alley Complex. Contact AAA Director for additional information

PLAYER ASSESSMENT: Assessment is required. The assessments are used to determine the level of play (AA, AAA, or Majors). Priority will be given to 10 and 11 year-olds for AAA Minors. The teams are formed by draft. AAA draft takes place after the Majors division draft.

AAA MINORS DIVISION: Players age 9 through 11. The player at this level has attained solid baseball knowledge and skills. Pitching will have no coach intervention. Base running, hitting, and fielding will be more aggressive in nature than the AA level. The playing of different positions will continue at this level, although some specialization may occur. Continuous batting order is in effect in the AAA division. The board would like to see playing time be as fair as possible, but it may not be equal. There will be an end-of-season tournament and the players in the AAA Minors division will be eligible to try out for the West Valley Little League All Star tournament teams that can compete up to the state level.

REGULAR SEASON: In AAA Minors you begin to see the talent really coming out in the kids; this is the third year of pitching, and it is fun to watch. The Minor League provides the increased competition, teamwork and skill level that players will develop to progress toward the Major League. Minor League players will fine-tune their skills and develop teamwork to prepare them for the Major League.

Majors

PLAYERS: League Age 10, 11, and 12 year-olds

Majors Games will be played at the Duck Alley Complex. Contact Majors Director for additional information.

PLAYER ASSESSMENTS: Assessment is required for all potential Majors eligible players. The assessments are used to determine the level of play (AA, AAA, or Majors). Teams are formed by draft. If a player was on a WVLL Majors team during the previous season and is still league-age 12 or younger, that player has the option to remain with that same Majors team in the upcoming season, and thus does not need to re-assess. Alternatively, if the player does not wish to remain with the same Majors team in the upcoming season, that player can re-assess such that he will re-enter the draft to be drafted onto a different Majors team.

MAJORS BASEBALL: Players age 10 through 12. Majors division players should demonstrate skill, leadership, and maturity while enhancing all skills development, rules knowledge, and situational baseball play in a competitive environment. Managing style may or may not dictate equal playing time; however, minimum play rules will be followed. There will be an end-of-season tournament.

REGULAR SEASON: The kids have developed into baseball players once they reach the Majors division. Some players will blossom in this more competitive environment. It is very enjoyable to watch. The best players from the Major League can sign-up for the 11/12 All-Star Team for tournament play at the end of the regular season. Potentially this team could play at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.

Intermediate (50/70)

PLAYERS: League Age 11, 12, and 13 year-olds

Intermediate (50/70) games are scheduled by the District. They travel in Ada and Canyon Counties. Their home games are at Hunters Creek. Contact the Intermediate/Juniors Director for more information.

PLAYER ASSESSMENT: Assessment is required. All players will be drafted onto a team. Assessments are used for coach evaluation and draft process. Teams are re-drafted annually.

INTERMEDIATE (50/70) BASEBALL: Intermediate division players should demonstrate skill, leadership, and maturity while enhancing all skills, rules knowledge, and situational baseball play in a competitive environment. At this level, there may not be equal playing time; however, minimum play rules will be followed. A field with 50-foot pitching mount and 70-foot bases will be used. The teams will travel throughout the Treasure Valley to play interleague games. There will be an end-of-season tournament, and players will be eligible to try out for the WVLL Intermediate (50/70) All Star Tournament Team that will have to potential to compete at the Little League World Series.

Juniors

PLAYERS: League Age 13, 14, and 15 year-olds

Junior games are scheduled by the District. They travel in Ada and Canyon counties. Their home games are at Eagle Middle School. Contact Intermediate/Juniors Director for additional information.

JUNIORS BASEBALL: Juniors division players should demonstrate skill, leadership, and maturity while enhancing all skills, rules knowledge, and situational baseball play in a competitive environment. At this level there may not be equal playing time; however, minimum play rules will be followed. A standard baseball field is used for the first time at this level, and the teams will travel throughout the Treasure Valley to play interleague games. There will be an end-of-season tournament, and players will be eligible to try out for the WVLL Juniors All-Star Tournament Team that can compete up to Nationals.

REGULAR SEASON: Wow! Now you are seeing some really awesome baseball. The kids are focused on the sport and the competition. This is baseball!

SOFTBALL

Rookie

For girls league age 7 and 8

This will be the first experience in softball for most players. Basic fundamentals are taught and developed at this level. Rookie softball is a district-wide league and involves possibly playing games throughout the greater Boise area. Girls turning 7 between Jan 1 and April 30th will have the choice to play 6T or Rookie Softball/Baseball.

Minors

For girls league age 9 to 11

8-year-old players may assess for Minors with prior approval and as needed to complete teams. While many players will have basic skills, the goal of the Minors division is to improve these skills with less emphasis on competition and more emphasis on development. Positions will be rotated and play time will be roughly equal. At this level players will pitch, and a regulation 11" yellow softball will be used. Minors softball is a district-wide league and involves possibly playing games throughout the greater Boise area. There will likely be an end-of-the-season tournament. 9 and 10-year-old players are eligible to try out for All-Stars and compete up to the State Championship.

Majors

For girls league age 10 to 12

Individual Manager styles may or may not dictate equal playing time, however, minimum play time rules as set by Little League will be followed. A regulation 12" yellow softball is used at this level.

Majors softball is a district-wide league and involves playing games throughout the greater Boise area. There will likely be an end-of-the-season tournament. 10-year-olds are eligible to try out for All-Stars and compete up to the State Championship. 11 and 12 year-olds are eligible to try out for All-Stars and compete up to the Little League Softball World Series.

Players of all abilities are welcome. Many players at this level will demonstrate skill, leadership, and knowledge of the game while working to enhance their skills, understand the rules, and play in a competitive environment. Individual Manager styles may or may not dictate equal playing time, however, minimum play time rules as set by Little League will be followed. A regulation 12" yellow softball is used at this level.

JUNIOR/SENIOR softball is a district-wide league and involves playing games throughout the greater Boise area. There will likely be an end-of-the-season tournament. 13 and 14 year-olds are eligible to try out for All-Stars and compete up to the Little League Softball World Series.
